(#1) Purslane (Portulaca oleracea and Portulaca Grandiflora) has been found to contain dopamine and also exhibit neuroprotective effects, potentially benefiting the dopaminergic system. Studies suggest it can counteract rotenone-induced biochemical changes and apoptosis in the brain, and improve motor function and reduce dopaminergic neuron degeneration in Parkinson's disease models.
Dopamine and Purslane:
Dopamine Content:
Purslane contains dopamine, a neurotransmitter crucial for various brain functions, including movement, motivation, and pleasure.
Neuroprotective Effects:
Purslane extracts have shown neuroprotective properties, particularly against rotenone-induced damage in the brain. Rotenone is a neurotoxin that can damage dopaminergic neurons, a key feature of Parkinson's disease.
Parkinson's Disease Model:
Studies using fly models of Parkinson's disease have demonstrated that purslane extracts can improve locomotor ability and reduce dopaminergic neuron degeneration.
Potential for Parkinson's Treatment:
The presence of dopamine, levodopa (a precursor to dopamine), and neuroprotective compounds in purslane suggests its potential as a complementary therapy for Parkinson's disease.
Other Potential Benefits:
Antioxidant Properties:
Purslane is rich in antioxidants, which can help protect against cellular damage caused by free radicals.
Anti-inflammatory Effects:
Purslane has demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties, which may be beneficial for various health conditions.
Nutritional Value:
Purslane is a good source of vitamins A and C, iron, calcium, potassium, omega-3 fatty acids, and magnesium.
"Azura" is selfesperimenting with this plant. The results will be published here.

"Azura" experienced the effects of taking portulaca for over a month. Consuming a few leaves in the morning apeares to be doing exactly what the receaches found and documented in the article copy/pasted above (#1).
1.) Purslane contains large amounts of oxalate, a condition, may create a problem for people who tend to develop kidney stones.
2.) However, is advisable to consult your doctor. Other than that, there is no known harm and side effects.
